From The Doctor's Desk
Lasers and optical technologies play a significant role in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. The unique ability of optical technologies to target specific structures and layers in tissue combined with radio frequency heating to effect chemical, mechanical or thermal changes makes them powerful tools in cutaneous rejuvenation including skin tightening and wrinkle reduction, hair removal, fat removal and treatment of red and brown pigmentations. Combining laser and radiofrequency technology is referred to as Elos, which is short for electrical optical synergy. These state of the art technologies now allow the practitioner to treat with greater precision and effectiveness than previous devices with significantly less discomfort and downtime.
For example laser-assisted liposuction coagulates small blood vessels and liquefies the fat during the procedure resulting in far less blood loss and bruising. The microfiber used to deliver the laser is 1/2 of a millimeter in diameter allowing for a very small cut through which the procedure is performed and the fat is removed with micro-cannulas though the same small hole. The microfiber laser deliver system result in smoother result with far less chance of developing surface irregularies which is a fairly common problem with standard liposuction. As if that is not enough probably the most exciting part about laser-assisted liposuction is its ability to tighten the skin in the treatment area reducing loose flabby tissue following the procedure. Most patients are able to return to work in as little as 1-2 days after treatment.
The Syneron corporation has pioneered the development of Elos based technology systems and has developed and extensive array of treatment devices. We are proud to have been chosen by Syneron to be one of a handful of centers in North America to participate in early clinical treatment trials with the latest technologies. This allows us to be on the cutting edge of new technological developments and provide you with the very best of the care. Laser and electrical combined technologies are headed toward safer, easier, and more effective individualized therapy.
